4. I already have a programmable thermostat in my home. Why would I want to change it?

While you may be able to program your thermostat to turn off or on at particular times, this programming is really just a guess about when the space will be occupied or not. The difference between this guess and how the space is actually being used could be costing a lot of money. For example, what if you come home much later than planned or go to bed much earlier? What about weekend getaways? Is your heater or air conditioner still running while you are gone? In the office, what about holidays? Regular programmable thermostats, even if they are properly used, cannot accommodate life’s variations and so they do not maximize energy savings. GreenSwitch allows you to choose the occupied and un-occupied temperature settings and ensures the climate control system is only running when you actually need it.

5. If I put my television on the GreenSwitch circuit, what happens to the “instant on” feature?

Modern televisions, stereos, satellite receivers, etc. consume power even in the “off” position. GreenSwitch prevents this waste of energy. When you come home and turn the GreenSwitch system on, power is supplied to the television again. By the time you walked to the television to turn it on, the “instant on” feature will be operational.

6. If I turn the GreenSwitch off at night, are all of my lights disabled?

For safety and security reasons, GreenSwitch light switches are “always enabled.” This means even when the GreenSwitch system is turned off, you can still turn on your lights whenever you need them.

7. Can I install GreenSwitch myself?

If you have an understanding of electrical circuits and feel comfortable changing a light switch or wall plug, the installation is quite easy. Since most people do not want to “play” with electricity, we have a nationwide installation service to handle this for you. In addition, when the installer arrives and you determine you may want more wall plugs or switches for items you did not think of during your order, the installer will have those items with him available to purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I have to replace all of the plugs and switches in my home?

No, you install the GreenSwitch outlets and light switches only for those lights or electronics that you choose to control. Most commonly these are work stations, entertainment centers and only the lights that are likely to be forgotten. Anything which is not on the GreenSwitch system will not be affected, so you do not have to worry about you refrigerator, clocks, Tivo, computer hard drives, or any thing else you do not want turned off.

2. What if I have an electronic that I want GreenSwitch to control, and one that should not be turned off, but they share the same outlet?

GreenSwitch outlets come in Single Control or Dual Control options. Dual Control Outlets have one plug that is controlled by the GreenSwitch system and one plug that is always on and is not affected by GreenSwitch. So, you can use the same outlet for your TV and TV program recording system, but GreenSwitch will stop the TV from wasting electricity, and you will still be able to record your favorite TV programs. Single Control Outlets have both plugs controlled by the GreenSwitch system.

3. I’m concerned about “wireless” in my home. Will the GreenSwitch have any effect on my other wireless products, such as telephones, etc.?

No, GreenSwitch modules have their own protected radio frequencies, which will not affect any other wireless systems in your home.
